PMC's Uncompromising Accuracy for Medium-Field Monitoring
The PMC 8-2 active studio monitor reveals the truth about your recordings, delivering unchanging precision session after session. Designed for reference monitoring in medium and large sized rooms, the PMC 8-2 is a 3-way design with unique drivers - two 200mm woofers, a 55mm midrange and a 27mm soft dome tweeter - mounted in the acclaimed cabinet ATL (Advanced Transmission Line) of the company. ATL is PMC's proprietary bass loading technology, which extends low-frequency response while reducing distortion, improving phase and frequency linearity, and optimizing SPL capability. Equipped with state-of-the-art custom Class D amplification and sophisticated acoustic engineering, the PMC 8-2 delivers a spacious sound field with impressive depth, clarity, imaging and dynamics. Your monitors are the key to great-sounding recordings - take yourself to a new level of precision with PMC.
New drivers for improved performance
The PMC 8-2 features two new 200mm bass drivers designed to work in conjunction with ATL technology, delivering significantly improved bass response that rivals that of many larger monitors. The tweeter used in the PMC 8-2 is the classic ScanSpeak unit used in PMC's acclaimed IB1S-AIII monitor, which served as the performance benchmark for the 8-2, but with enhanced features and customization options. Together, these advanced drivers represent a new level of accuracy and transparency for PMC, whose displays have been essential components of world-class control rooms for decades. To provide a generous ideal listening area, the midrange driver is mounted on PMC's exclusive n-compass waveguide, which optimizes dispersion for a coherent, linear response over a wide horizontal and vertical area. The PMC 8-2's unerring accuracy, extended frequency response, and relatively compact form factor make it an excellent primary monitor for mobile recording trucks and other applications where space is limited but monitoring accuracy is essential.
Optimized electronics, formidable power
The PMC 8-2 is quad-amplified by state-of-the-art ICEPower amplifiers that deliver 400 watts to each of the four drivers via a state-of-the-art crossover system. To provide configuration flexibility, the XLR input can be switched between analog and AES digital. A partnership with iconic high-end consumer electronics company Bang & Olufsen, ICEPower was founded in 1999 at a time when Class D amplification, which had existed since the 1950s, had matured and was beginning to be used in professional audio applications such as active monitors, where high power, low weight and overheating-free operation were desirable. ICEPower's close association with B&O provided access to the resources, technical expertise, quality control processes and business knowledge of an established company. Today, the company's advanced amplification modules power world-class products in the professional audio, consumer electronics and automotive industries. The PMC 8-2 can be combined with its dedicated subwoofer, the PMC 8-2 SUB, to form an XBD system, thereby increasing low-frequency headroom in the same way as PMC's other XBD systems.
Advanced Transmission Line Technology (ATL) delivers cleaner, deeper bass
Delivers deeper bass and greater output in smaller cabinets, delivering rich, full sound at any listening level. And because the ATL's bass extension doesn't vary with volume levels, low frequencies are well-defined and always balanced, even when listening at low volume.
Mitigates problematic frequencies and eliminates duct noise that can mask the midrange in other types of monitor speaker designs. As a result, you'll find it easier to position, for example, vocals and solo instruments in a mix, allowing you to achieve an ideal balance that translates to the world outside your studio.
