The Chandler Limited TG1 Stereo Limiter/Compressor is a recreation of the classic EMI TG12413 Limiter used in EMI and Abbey Road custom recording and mastering consoles from the late 1960s. The original was used extensively by engineers such as Geoff Emerick and on albums such as "Abbey Road" by the Beatles and "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd, among others.
The 2RU rack-mountable device features a fully discrete circuit design with transformer-balanced inputs and outputs. The limiting element consists of a network of diodes to produce distortion comparable to that of the Fairchild 670. Each channel includes an analog meter for visual feedback, as well as controls to switch between compression and limiting functions, to set the input level, to set the output level and recovery time setting. The unit also includes a toggle switch to bypass the compressor's limiter functions to use the device as a harmonic distortion generator, capable of adding up to 2% total harmonic distortion, twice that of analog tape.
The compressor limiter has audio input controls that provide finer control over the amount of compression and limiter resolution. The unit requires the Chandler Limited PSU-1 power supply to operate (sold separately).
