PMC Impeccable Accuracy for Mid-Sized Control Rooms

The PMC 6-2 active studio monitor reveals the truth about your recordings, delivering unwavering accuracy session after session.

Designed for reference monitoring in medium-sized rooms, the PMC 6-2 is a 3-way design with unique drivers - two 150mm woofers, a 55mm midrange and a 27mm soft dome tweeter - mounted in the acclaimed company's ATL (Advanced Transmission Line) cabinet.

ATL is PMC's exclusive bass loading technology that extends low-frequency response, reducing distortion, improving phase and frequency linearity, and optimizing SPL capability.

Equipped with state-of-the-art custom Class D amplification and sophisticated acoustic engineering, the PMC 6-2 delivers a spacious sound field with impressive depth, clarity, imaging and impact.

Your monitors are the key to great-sounding recordings. Raise the level of accuracy with PMC.

New drivers for better performance

The PMC 6-2 features two newly designed 150mm bass drivers that work in conjunction with ATL technology to deliver significantly improved bass response rivaling many larger monitors.

The tweeter used in the PMC 6-2 is a custom version of an HF driver manufactured by SB Acoustics, a company renowned for its high-quality speaker units. Together, these advanced drivers represent a new level of accuracy and transparency for PMC, whose displays have been essential components of world-class control rooms for decades.

To help provide a generous listening sweet spot, the midrange driver is mounted on PMC's unique n-compass waveguide, which optimizes dispersion to achieve a coherent, linear response over a wide horizontal and vertical area.

The PMC 6-2's impeccable accuracy, extended frequency response, and compact form factor make it an excellent primary monitor for mobile recording trucks and other applications where space is limited but monitoring accuracy is essential.

Optimized electronics, formidable power

The PMC 6-2 is amplified by four state-of-the-art ICEPower amplifiers that deliver 400 watts to each of the four drivers through an advanced crossover system.

For configuration flexibility, the XLR input can be switched between analog and AES digital. A partnership with iconic high-end consumer electronics company Bang & Olufsen, ICEPower was founded in 1999 at a time when Class D amplification, which had existed since the 1950s, had matured and was beginning to be used in professional audio applications such as active monitors; where high power, light weight and low temperature operation were desirable.

ICEPower's close association with B&O has given them access to the resources, technical expertise, quality control processes, and business expertise of a well-established company, and today the company's advanced amplification modules are found in world-class products in the professional audio, consumer electronics and automotive.

Advanced Transmission Line Technology delivers cleaner, deeper bass

Since designing the first professional studio main monitor that was adopted by the music, broadcast and post-production industries in the early 1990s, PMC has become famous for its proprietary Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology.

A transmission line is a method of loading a low-frequency speaker into an enclosure so that unwanted frequencies radiating from the back of the driver are absorbed, allowing only the lowest frequencies to pass through.

These frequencies emerge from a front opening in the panel, which effectively acts as an auxiliary LF driver that extends the bass response, absorbing unwanted low frequencies that contribute to harmonic distortion, detracting from the upper bass and midrange.

One of the keys to the natural, highly detailed sound of PMC speakers, ATL technology delivers deeper bass and greater power in smaller cabinets, delivering rich, full sound at any listening level. And because ATL bass extension doesn't vary with volume level, bass is well-defined and always balanced, even when listening at low volume.

Mixes that translate

There is no substitute for midrange clarity in a monitor. This is the essence of your mix and remains relevant regardless of the playback system. That's why you can spend hours trying to achieve a perfect balance and only end up with frustration, listening fatigue, and a mix that doesn't "translate." In addition to improving bass response, PMC's ATL technology also attenuates problematic frequencies and eliminates duct noise that can mask the midrange in other types of monitor speaker designs. As a result, you'll find it easier to position, for example, vocals and solo instruments in a mix, allowing you to achieve an ideal balance that translates to the world outside your studio.
